What is The Beehive all about?
|
 |
 |
 |
The Beehive community network gives not-for-profit groups, societies and organisations a way of sharing common interests on the Internet for free.
The network gives them the tools to build their own special site into which they can upload and maintain all manner of information about themselves.
Anyone can view any part of the site or read bulletin board messages without registering, but once signed up as a community member you can reply to discussions in any bulletin board or even create new discussions about your field of interest.
Do I have to pay anything?
No - it costs nothing to use the site.
Why should I register?
You don't need to register to view the site, but becoming a community member allows you to interact with other members via the bulletin boards. Registered users who represent a non-profit-making organisation can also create their own site.
For more information on registering and using the bulletin boards, click see our
help
section.
Who can create their own community site?
Only representatives of not-for-profit organisations, groups or societies within the Essex area are allowed to create a web site devoted to their group's activities. Any site not representing such an organisation will be rejected by the site administrator.
What happens to make my site visible to the public?
As soon as you have created a site, it goes into a holding area to await approval by The Beehive site administrator. The site administrator may contact you via email or telephone before making the site visible to general users.
Do I have to download any special software to use The Beehive?
No - there is nothing to download to your machine. All the tools used to build a community are included in the site.
What features does The Beehive offer not-for-profit organisations?
Your free site can include:
- A home page - the introductory page in any community site.
This includes the name of the organisation, a description and links to other pages and bulletin boards within the community site. Each home page also links to other services, such as the day's local and national news and sport from the pages of This Is Essex.
- Up to 10 news and information pages
You can fill these in any way you want - details of your organisation, pictures of your group or reports of your activities.
- Links to other sites of your choice
You can use this feature to link to other appropriate websites within your field of interest.
- An events calendar
This feature allows you to tell users about the times and dates of any event happening in your organisation
- A contacts address book
Used to display the names and telephone numbers of all the key contacts in your organisation.
